Understanding Licensing versus Franchising
Franchising and Licensing are similar in that they both bring a proven business model to the marketplace for a fee. An approved Franchisee or Licensee purchases the rights to use the business model, systems, name, logo, Patents, Trademarks, etc. to establish a duplicate of the business model. On-going rights to use the business model are paid for with "royalties" that are paid periodically (usually weekly or monthly).
Franchising is a controlled and regimented business model that requires the Franchisee to follow, exactly, the systems and operational model.
