Raising Money - Part 1 - Using Investors to Kick Start Your Business

A common problem for most entrepreneurs is sourcing out funding for their small businesses.  There may be an influx of good business ideas and fabulous suggestions on starting your own business but the challenge is to be able to realize all these plans and capitalization plays a very important part in kick starting small businesses. 

To be able to raise funding for your business, you will need to look into the various funding avenues available.  The next step is to choose a funding option that is best fits the needs of your business.  Do some thorough research on what is available in the market.  More choices shall help you understand and decide on what is truly best for you.  In return, you should be able to demonstrate a certain credibility that would make the person funding deem your enterprise worthy of funding. 

The Internet is a good source of information on how to start small businesses and raise capital for them.  Online resources offer a range of ideas that could help you pick and choose the ones that could help you in starting your own business. 

There are several funding options that you could consider.  There is what you call equity financing or a form of funding that awards loans in exchange for owning part of the business.  This is what investors and venture capitalists usually offer and it is certainly a good way to raise money.  On the other hand, equity financing may correspondingly cause you to lose part of your own business.  This is because some investors may want to own a greater part of the business earnings and gain control of business decisions.  This is the same reason why some experts have suggested that equity financing be a last resort if you are starting your own business.

Another funding option would be debt financing.  This would be a loan offered by accredited government agencies or banks.  You pay the government agency or the bank money when you get a debt financing loan.  Unlike equity financing, debt financing allows you to be the sole owner of your business.  The interest in debt financing is tax deductible. 

You may also look into small business grants when starting your own business.  This is the kind of funding that you do not have to pay back.  However, this is not easily accessible to all either.  You may check on how to get a small business grant through several sites on the Internet.
